This week I’ve been reading Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport and I am loving it. His blog is great too.

I watched Russian Doll this week and wow, was it catchy. All I knew going into it was that Gretchen Rubin had talked about it enthusiastically on her podcast and I was not disappointed! Trailer here if you want to know the basic premise.

One million obsessed with this Lizzo song. Whenever I’m obsessed with a song I listen to it on repeat for days, so this has been the soundtrack of my week.

SuperPay looks like a very handy way to request payment if you don’t want to set up a big fancy system. (Also added to The Appothecary!)

Great thoughts from James Clear here on making priorities true priorities. Best quote is the last line: “The most dangerous distractions are the ones you love, but that don’t love you back.”

Over on my business blog this week, I’m sharing how I recently broke down a big project into bite-sized pieces I could actually accomplish.

In case you missed it, this week on the podcast I’m talking about strategies & reminders-to-self to use when you’re having one of those slow, sluggish days.

This week’s gone by in a blink! Last weekend I was feeling dejected about the weather and crazy tired, but the warmer temperatures and sunshine the last couple days have perked me up a bit. I am so excited about my masterclass next week at Make Lemonade (still a couple spots left!), especially now that I’ve finished the content. I also stayed up far too late this week finishing my re-read of the last Harry Potter book – still so good after so long! Better than I remembered. This weekend I’m heading out of town (yay!) to a farmhouse with approximately 20 dogs, aka paradise. I hope you have a wonderful long weekend too! xo.

Go All In

Go All In >> Life In Limbo

I’m currently re-reading the Harry Potter series for the first time since I was a kid. When I was young, my dad read the first three to my sisters and I, and then when I was finally old enough, I would stay up all night reading the new ones as soon as I got them. But I’d never revisited them as an adult until this year.

And I’m not just re-reading them, either! I’m reading the books, then listening to the corresponding Binge Mode: Harry Potter podcast episodes, then watching the movies. I’m currently in the middle of book seven, and as I went outside for a walk today to listen to the Binge Mode episode for the span of chapters I’d just read, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. The two hosts make me laugh so much with all their sayings and phrases, non-stop irreverent jokes about the characters, and double entendres in the text.

But they also maintain such a fierce sense of loyalty and respect for the series throughout. They LOVE these books, unabashedly and whole-heartedly, and listening to them unpack what they love about them and how masterful JKR was in writing them makes you feel like you can appreciate them more, too. It’s like being in the best kind of book club: one with thoughtful friends who carefully point out interesting observations and insights and deepen & enrich your experience of the book itself.

Noticing my joy today made me think about how little I let myself go all in on loving what I love. I hold back, thinking that it’s overkill, or weird, or awkward to love what I love just so much. Now, I see that it’s often a gift to others to live with that kind of enthusiasm. And if not to others, it’s at least a gift to yourself. Not everyone would want to read, listen & watch this series all at once! But I do, and giggling about it all to myself is reminding me to look for even more ways to lean in to my joy.

032: Strategies for Slow Days

The Life In Limbo podcast is about building a life you love on the foundation of what’s most important to you. Each week I chat with an interesting person or share my own ideas in order to explore about how we can stay connected to our personal values, measure what matters most to us, listen to our own voices, and create a life we enjoy. 032: Strategies for Slow Days >> Life In Limbo

On today’s episode, I’m revisiting a topic that I recently talked about over on Instagram: the things I try to remember when I’m having a slow, sluggish, unproductive kind of day. I review all the ideas that I use to try to cope with feeling down, and I also share ideas I sourced from other people about how they deal with a slow day. This episode is a note to self for the next time I’m feeling kind of “bleh” and I hope some of these ideas resonate with you too!

I’m always obsessed with Goodreads’ list features, so I am enjoying working my way through their Summer Reading guide and saving practically all of the books to my own TBR. I found these best-selling authors’ reading lists particularly fascinating.

LOVED this episode of Akimbo on being supple and resilient in business in a changing world. So good!

Well this is very cool! A website created to promote accessibility in the fashion industry through in-depth product descriptions and more photos of clothes being worn in various positions.

I am ever-inspired by Austin Kleon and how committed he is to a life of noticing and creativity. This exploration of revisiting old notebooks made me want to a) keep better notebooks and b) revisit them more often. So fascinating.

This week I’ve been taking part in Rebecca Jacobs’ Liberate Your Style Challenge which has been fun and, well, challenging!

In case you missed it, this week the podcast is back with an interview with one of my favourite thinkers & teachers, Sarah Von Bargen. I gained so much wisdom from her through this conversation.

I’m thrilled to be teaching a masterclass at Make Lemonade called Do More in Less Time on May 23rd! It’s such an awesome coworking space and I’m excited and honoured to be teaching there.

It’s been a somewhat stressful week, my friends! A couple people close to me had unexpected surgeries & hospital visits, which has been scary. But I also celebrated my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary with my family, which was lovely, relaunched the podcast, and enjoyed the sunshine this week. It’s still a little chilly, but at least we have sun! And dressing up every day as a part of the style challenge I mentioned above has been a welcome change, too. This weekend I’m hoping to make a dent in my reading stack and spend some time with my family. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.
