Inspiration November 9 >> Life In Limbo

I listened to this episode of Hurry Slowly twice in a row to really understand what she was saying and I found it very refreshing.

Offline inspiration this week included reading I’m Afraid of Men by Vivek Shraya. So good, so important, so educational.

I also went to see Hello Sunshine x Together Live this week which featured Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, Ibtihaj Muhammad and other interesting women. If it’s coming to your city, check it out! Very cool women telling stories.

I am also inspired by the Democrats winning back the House of Representatives and by the fact that there are more women in the House than at any other time in history. More good news here (and yet we have a long way to go).

One of the teams I work on started using Basecamp this week and it’s such a game-changer! Highly recommend to anyone working on a big team that needs better communication and project-management. Asana is another fave.

Last week I ran my first workshop all about email management and email boundaries and it was so much fun! I was really inspired by every person who attended, because they’re all up to such interesting things. Big thanks to Nurture for letting me use their new workshop space!

In lovely and helpful tech tutorials, this week I learned how to use my phone as a remote for a Google Slides presentation. Life-saver on workshop day!!!

This week on the podcast I’m talking about how fun it is to add things up over time and let that momentum be a form of motivation. This is also the last episode of season two!

I didn’t have a lot of time to read articles online this week – I was busy doing a lot of work before my friend Katie gets here for the weekend! I can’t wait to see her and pick up our endless conversation where it left off back in August. She’s such a joy in my life and it’s so fun to spend time with her. If you need me, I’ll be eating, drinking and talking. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Inspiration November 2 >> Life In Limbo

This week The Vault, a project that I am so proud to be a part of, was featured in CBC Arts. It is such a thoughtful piece explaining exactly why we believe so wholeheartedly in these stories, and in doing this work. If you’re interested in the idea of women claiming space for their stories read the piece here and join The Vault here! Even if you never read a single story, your $5 a month helps support the kind of art and stories you want to see in the world. Worth it.

So obsessed with the idea of raising other people’s aspirations. I think that many of us do this intuitively, and I also find that this is a huge piece of the work that I do strategically with entrepreneurs: simply showing them what more could be possible. Love this idea!

Probably couldn’t love this article about “struggle porn” (aka the lie that we all have to hustle and burn out on the way to our dreams) any more. I am so grateful to anyone calling out the b.s. mentalities we’re seeing coming out of the entrepreneurial world lately and showing us another way (forever shoutout Jocelyn Glei & Basecamp).

Thank you for existing Seth Godin, my friend! Loved this article about how we are not too good for systems. I may get this tattooed on my body: “If it matters enough to be careful, it matters enough to build a system around it.”

I continually feel called to start blogging daily because I have a feeling it would probably change my life, but I get nervous about it. Here’s Austin Kleon on why it’s great, and Seth again explaining why it matters.

I love the idea of cooking as a form of self-care, and this is a beautiful essay. I’m not quite there yet, but I’m well on my way! Big ups to Sonja the genius for nudging me down this path.

I started Insecure Season 3 this week and I am so happy! Long live this tv show, for real.

I am really excited that this weekend I am running my very first workshop! On the surface it’s about managing your email inbox, but its sneaky purpose is to teach us how to set better boundaries and be more productive at work. If you’re in Toronto, I’d love to have you there! If not, I have gotten requests to do the workshop online so stay tuned!

This week on the podcast I’m talking about the importance of getting your mind into the lane of the long game, and the strategies I use to keep myself motivated when things take a long time.

On the whole I am feeling happy and fulfilled and pleased with how things are going, even though I also feel busy and mildly stressed and scattered. I know that on the whole, things are wonderful, better than wonderful. My BFF is coming to visit next week and I am already so excited for all the food we will eat and the fun we will have. And the weekend after is Nurture: what?! It’s going to be absolutely incredible. I can’t wait. This weekend is full of good things and hopefully one entire day of just relaxing. I hope you have a good weekend too! xo.

Inspiration October 26 >> Life In Limbo

Though I have not yet gotten her book from the library, I was so inspired by this interview with Priya Parker on Hurry Slowly about the art of gathering. Jocelyn is such a good interviewer and it felt like the kind of conversation I want to be having with my friends 100% of the time.

This week I made baked oatmeal for the first time, and how lovely it has been so far, one day in! Yummy, makes my house smell amazing as it’s heating up, and leaves me with lots of energy.

A really great piece about the immense struggles and suffering that trans people experience daily and why cisgender feelings matter far less than the rights and dignities of trans individuals.

So fun to read more about why my friend Laura loves her job! She also very kindly linked to the archive of these inspiration posts, which was lovely of her.

Amy Young gives us excellent advice for dating and managing our expectations and disappointments.

Watching this interview with Dr. Steve Porges was part of my course work for my Self-Reg course this week, and I loved it – it’s all about how we send signals to loved ones to communicate safety in primal (ie. non-cognitive) ways. Love thinking about intimacy from a neuroscience perspective.

Making A Murderer is back! While I am not inspired by the story itself, which is sad and horrible, I am inspired by the dedication of these filmmakers and by the people within the justice system who work so hard to do what’s right. All the defense lawyers in this series are rock stars.

This week on the podcast I am talking about the sneaky little lies that resistance tells us in an attempt to keep us small and safe.

I’m coming out of a season of work: projects, launches, boundaries, long hours, lots of screen time. I’m ready for a shift towards quiet, which I’m noticing in myself in how I’m having more nights at home, getting back to my long walks, turning towards watching a movie at night instead of doing just one more thing for my business. It feels good to move in seasons, as long as I listen to my body and shift when it tells me to! This weekend I want to recharge, rest, and restore by moving more slowly, reading more carefully, and doing nothing a bit more often. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

First of all, this is an extremely helpful eternal reminder for us all, c/o Glennon.

I started using this Airtable base to track my business revenue this week and am so in love. Also made by the lovely folks at Wandering Aimfully: this podcast episode about their marketing strategies was similarly excellent.

Relevant and helpful: this list of apps that you can use to make your Instagram stories look more beautiful!! Expect to see my faves make it into The Appothecary when I have a chance to test them out.

This week I ordered my first pair of THINX! I’m so excited for them to arrive, they look so beautifully-made and of course will be very helpful. If anyone wants a pair, I have this affiliate link that gives you $20 off!

Lol’d at the “Scary Time” song. So funny and good! Thanks for articulating what we have all been feeling.

Toronto friends: I’m excited to be hosting my first workshop at Nurture‘s new workshop space on November 4th! I’ll be teaching you all my tricks for a calmer, more manageable email inbox (and life). Tickets here!

This week on the podcast I am chatting with my lovely friend Ameema about how much we both love to read & why we feel that reading is so important and healing! I loved this conversation.

I’m in another busy season of work in my business, which means most of my evenings lately have been spent alternately going for walks, tweaking things on the computer and planning for the future. There is so much exciting stuff going on and the best part is: there is so much to look forward to over the next little while. It just keeps getting better and better! This week I did some reflection on just how packed these past four months have been, but all I can say in the end is how grateful I feel and how much I’m learning. It’s pretty rad! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, friends. xo.
