Inspiration January 11 >> Life In Limbo

I am incredibly inspired by the strength and resilience of every single woman who shared her story in this documentary about the atrocities that R. Kelly inflicted on so many people. Note: this website is full of pop-up ads, and the ‘advertisements’ before the videos play are disturbing, especially given the content in the videos. It’s so upsetting, but the documentary is incredibly well-made and important.

This week I started listening to The Dream and I am HOOKED. It’s all about MLM programs, and does an amazing job of breaking it down and explaining both why they are problematic, AND why people are attracted to them (hint: it has to do with gender and the patriarchy).

I almost cried reading this piece about how Melbourne gave its city trees individual email addresses, and people started sending them love letters and secrets. “You are beautiful. Sometimes I sit or walk under you and feel happier.”

Sarah Von Bargen coming in hot with the amazing mini resolution ideas, if you get overwhelmed or stressed by the New Year’s pressure to revamp your entire life.

People who make websites, please visit this website that I will be using for all future Lorem Ipsum needs…that is, Jeff Goldblum needs. Life finds a way. If you too are delighted by the wacky whimsy of this website that is completely free and was created for no other reason besides hilarity, I think we would be friends.

I love Jocelyn K. Glei’s newsletter, and if you want a taste of what it usually contains, check out her email from the end of the year with the best links of 2018. So cool.

I am back to taking a one second video every day and it is bringing me SO MUCH JOY. If you are in any way into the idea, I’m here to tell you that January 10th is in no way “too late” to start – the joy you will feel from this tiny little daily practice will far outweigh the irritation that you didn’t start on January 1st.

Last but not least, thank you to Donté Colley for being a gem and giving us some joyful inspiration as we move through the frigid days here in Toronto. This is such a fun video!!

This week was a good one! I am finally back to feeling like I have more balance and energy throughout the day, and am working on taking my time with things that need to get done instead of constantly rushing around. My program has officially started, which is exciting, and I am so jazzed about the women I’m working with. And I’m so thrilled to be running my Inbox Zero workshop again this weekend! So fun. I’ll also be discussing this great book at one of my book clubs. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Inspiration: January 4 >> Life In Limbo

A very good and thought-provoking question from Jocelyn K Glei, plus a whole thread of answers from cool people on Twitter. I think my answer would be “Taking a 3-day business/life retreat in April”.

In case you spent a bit too much money over the holiday season, Sarah is here to help us with her amazing tips! I especially love the No Grocery Challenge and choosing free activities to catch up with friends.

I have come full-circle and am back to using Asana for all my task management, and WHY DID I STOP? Well I know why: I love to try every single shiny new software in case it’ll be helpful for my clients, but…we’re back in business and better than ever.

A hard but important read about how the gig economy is pushing us to be selling ourselves, all the time. It’s exhausting. “This trend toward increasingly market-driven human interaction is making us paranoid, jittery, self-critical and judgmental.”

This week I was introduced to a cool new app called Golden Thread Tarot that offers digital readings as well as the ability to log your readings with any deck you use. It’s super cool, and the physical decks they sell are so gorgeous too.

For 2019 I am back to doing 1 Second Everyday, because I missed it!! I am so sad that I didn’t have a record of my life in 2018, so this may just become an always-on resolution from now on. If you want to get started, I would highly recommend!

I am inspired by all the books I read in 2018. It was such a fun and fulfilling reading year! You can see everything I read here. In 2019 I am upping my goal by quite a bit, which is having the unexpected bonus of making me feel free to read ANYTHING I want – this week I took Little House in the Big Woods out of the library.

In case you missed it, the podcast is back! In this week’s episode, I’m sharing my process for reflection on 2018 & goal-setting for 2019.

Happy New Year! Wow, I really needed that holiday break, for so many reasons. After a few days off with my family, followed by several days completely by myself, I am feeling so refreshed and reinvigorated to tackle the challenges of the year ahead. Life is feeling lovely and I am physically feeling so much better after the ickiness of being sick in December. I have so much to look forward to in 2019! This weekend I’m recording a new episode of the podcast and going to a different kind of exercise class than I’ve experienced before. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Love the idea of a distraction-less phone. I’d say I’m 85% of the way there myself, but still have a ways to go. Excellent food for thought here.

As a person who is very bad at deciding what to have for dinner, this is definitely going to be my next tarot deck purchase!!!

I’ve been listening to audiobooks lately in an attempt to meet my Reading Challenge goal before the end of the year, and I have been thoroughly enjoying Sing, Unburied, Sing even though it is heart-wrenching.

I fed my budding interest in astrology this week by downloading Co–Star, an app that saves your birth chart and also shows you your compatibility with your friends (gasp emoji). It’s really fun, and also just helpful to stop forgetting all my signs.

I was super inspired by learning from Allyson, a makeup artist who gave my friend Sonja a makeup lesson for her birthday. Her Instagram is very fun & she’s the one who turned me on to the app above!

My friend Ameema is running an Instagram campaign called 12 Days of Diverse Christmas, where she recommends books daily in a variety of categories of diversity. It is SO cool and so enlightening and my to-read list is growing by the day with incredible-looking titles.

Last weekend I threw a drop-in strategy session for local entrepreneurs, which was incredibly inspiring. I wrote about the experience in my business newsletter, where I’m also announcing that I only have one spot left in my group strategy program! So exciting.

This week has been yet another blur – tomorrow is my last day with one of my long-time clients, so there has been a lot to do in order to make that transition feel smooth for my successor. I’ve also been (still) dealing with super low energy and lethargy, which I’m chalking up mostly to the cold greyness since my mood spiked on the days this week when we had sun! I can’t tell you how excited I am for an actual break, a full week or so off of work that I can just spend catching up on sleep, reading books, and processing all the crazy changes that my life has undergone over the past few months. So I’m planning to take a break from the blog too – I’ll be back with more inspiration on January 4th. Have an incredible holiday season & wishing you such a happy New Year. xo.

As part of my membership to The Quarterly, I got access to the Set Vision & Plan Change course, which is set up in such a cool way! I can’t wait to dive in and reflect on 2018 to plan for the year ahead.

Another year of Christmas gifts, another year of creating beautiful photo calendars for my family members! If you need a template, I swear by the ones from Paislee Press which I buy every year.

I loved this article about the joy of “no phones allowed”. I think that for better or for worse, we’re going to need to be creating more of these kinds of rules for ourselves to have the experiences we’re craving.

Great perspective pushing back against the constant self-helpy advice to get outside your comfort zone. “By recognizing and respecting my comfort zone, I can identify when a situation threatens my wellbeing. And by asserting my boundaries, I can get back from anxiety to a place where I feel psychologically safe and secure.”

Reminder: you don’t have a career, you have a life. We have to bring our full selves (and all our values) to everything we do, including work. Work is not a reason to leave those things at home.

How cute are these tarot cards of tech?? I love them, and the fact that they’re all about asking important questions.

Ooh, WordPress has a fancy new editor, so that’s kind of fun to explore as I write this! Life this week has been pretty slow, since I’ve been battling a gross cold and dealing with the frigid, dark cold days here in Toronto. We haven’t had any sun since Sunday! Bleh. That said, I have been taking the opportunity to go inwards a bit more, starting to reflect on 2018 and look ahead to 2019. Already I’m energized by the idea of a new start and some time to reset our lives to prepare for what’s coming. This weekend I’m going wedding dress shopping (!) with my friend Laura, and throwing a small drop-in strategy event for some local entrepreneurs! It should be a lot of fun. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too. xo.
