Inspiration June 22 >> Life In Limbo

This week like so many people I was horrified by the news from the southern U.S. border. If you feel unsure of how to help, Laura wrote a great post for Canadians here, and Reading Tea Leaves shared more resources for how to help and learn more about this topic here. In terms of financial support, I donated to RAICES here and to Together Rising here (more info on how TR is using the money here). The inspiring part of all of this is to witness how powerful we can be and how much support we can give when we come together.

For World Refugee Day yesterday I also loaned on Kiva, where they were doing loan matching. I loan to Kiva regularly and always recommend it to anyone who wants to know their dollars are making a difference in people’s lives.

On a related note, I loved Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast episode about the history of the Mexico-U.S. border which explains how they have literally created the problem they are currently complaining about non-stop.

Another great podcast episode that I listened to this week was an interview with Lacy Phillips, who was new to me. I really loved what they were talking about and I’m now interested in taking one of her online manifestation courses!

As a woman, I get so excited to see all-women remakes of old movies, but as a feminist, reading this article made me wince. “These reboots require women to relive men’s stories instead of fashioning their own.”

I really enjoyed this interview with Pamela Drucker. I haven’t read any of her books but this makes me want to! While not a perfect test, I like the thought exercise of asking, “If I had to do this today, would I agree to it?” I also love the reminder to be a bit ruthless.

This week I was lucky enough to work with Amber Ellis of Creating Light Studio for a brand photoshoot for my business. It was such a special experience and I cried because of how grateful I felt for the opportunity and for the friends I had around me. Amber is so talented and warm and makes what is a fairly intimidating process seem so much more approachable.

In case you missed it, this week on the podcast I interviewed my friend Erin about building the things we want to see more of in the world. I am endlessly inspired by her and the things she creates, including Wednesday night’s incredible storytelling event that I felt lucky to have experienced.

It was a busy week, but so full of love and joy, too. There’s a lot going on, but I can see the light at the end of the hectic tunnel I’ve been in for the past couple of months. I’ve been building something new and pushing myself to grow and it feels like it’s finally paying off. This weekend I’m excited to *~chill~*,  have a nice relaxing time, and enjoy a few days of R&R. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Yay! The What sent out their non-fiction reading list this week, and I marked every single new one as to-read on my Goodreads.

The case for extreme moderation: “I want to do a reasonable job at the different parts of my life and a stellar job at the balance between all of them.” This article makes me feel calmer.

Also helping make me feel calm: this report about the changes coming to help us create a quieter iPhone. As a person who has my phone on Do Not Disturb 100% of the time, all of this sounds very appealing to me.

I absolutely love following along as Caroline & Jason build their new business, and it was really cool to see this example of how they’re using Airtable to track their content.

Captain Awkward linked to the Geek Social Fallacies again recently, so I gave it a re-read. So fun to revisit this uber-helpful post! So clarifying and so much truth.

I started watching Taste of the Country this week on Netflix and omg! South Pond Farms is so beautiful and cool.

This week on the podcast it was just me! I was talking about some recent experiences with breaking limiting beliefs and fully embracing a growth mindset.

As I write this I’m feeling really tired, but really happy. My younger sister had her university graduation, and it was so special to celebrate her alongside my family. Add to that a few unexpected meetings, my monthly entrepreneurs meetup, and wrapping up client work with dreamy clients, and you’ve got yourself a tired Stephanie ready for the weekend. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

I love looking at lists of the apps that different people like to use. When I signed up for the Offscreen Dispatch, it sent me this one, and there are so many great gems inside! The newsletter so far is great too.

Lots of tears reading this beautiful, heartbreaking post about love and grief and acceptance.

I didn’t know there was a new Gmail until this week, but I liked this post showing off its features. So far I like it, though it wouldn’t load for me today over a slow connection.

New-to-me #goals Instagram feed: The Home Edit. It’s so pleasing to see so much organization in one handy place.

Added to my to-read list and library holds: The Art of Gathering. Looks so beautiful! Also added this week: Educated, The Ensemble, The Year of Less and The Sun Does Shine.

This week on the podcast I interviewed my friend Kim Sedgwick about prioritizing her inner life and how her coaching practice has helped with her personal development. Such a fun one!

It was a big week! Between book club and writing a big report and introducing Raffi in concert and going for a fancy pasta dinner, my days have been full and nerve-wracking and exciting. I am happy to have a weekend ahead that’s wide-open and empty for all of the relaxing and reading I plan to do. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

I love Jocelyn K. Glei for always reminding me of what’s important to me, and I loved her newsletter this week about taking a break from her computer. Refreshing.

In case you missed it, Where Should We Begin? is back at it with the heart-wrenching, soul-feeding, genuinely moving episodes. It’s my favourite podcast!

It’s election season here in Ontario, and I was proud to vote in advance yesterday. For anyone else who lives here: everything you need to know, a quiz to help you decide who to vote for, and Just F’ing Vote, an initiative for millennials.

This week I learned about this Entrepreneurship 101 course put on by MaRS and it looks awesome.

Oh my gosh, Airtable blocks look so cool. I am a bit overwhelmed about how to begin using them, but this is my current favourite system and I am trying to convert everyone.

This week I interviewed my friend Rebecca Jacobs, a personal style coach, about how she uses her morning routine to live a better version of her life.

Without a doubt, the most inspiring part of my week was being up north at my boyfriend’s family cottage. For me, there is absolutely nothing more inspiring than being in a beautiful natural place surrounded by water and sky and trees. Although it was not a vacation – I was working while we were there – it was extremely refreshing and grounding. Even though the boat battery died as we were leaving and we had quite an adventure trying to get off the island! Still so much fun. This weekend I’m hoping to catch up on some work projects and spend time with my family. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.
