Favourite Things

Read This Book: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Remember in elementary school, when there was D.E.A.R. time? As in, drop everything and read? I think it was created for books like this one.

I had been meaning to pick up this title for a while, ever since that book preview I stumbled into. This book was highly recommended, and was listed along with several other amazing upcoming titles on a handy-dandy little powerpoint slide printout.

I have since learned two things: 1. I must never again miss a book preview, because the books they recommend are pure gold; and 2. I must never again lose the powerpoint slide printouts they give out. Which I did. I have been ransacking my room for the past few days, looking for it desperately. Mainly because, if the rest of the books on that list are as good as The Night Circus and Ready Player One, I will have an outstanding year of reading.

Like The Night Circus, I read this book in about 3 days. No, I didn’t completely neglect my homework, but I did stay up a bit later and choose to read instead of watch TV (a very rare event). It’s that good.

Project 365: Week 7

I’ve been loving Project 365 this week. It’s becoming second-nature to take photos every day, which is AWESOME in and of itself. But I’ve also been lucky enough to have a lot of great subject matter this past week – my family home always has something exciting going on to photograph. I’ve been enjoying myself here at home immensely, it’s such a nice break. I’ll be heading back to Montreal tomorrow, refreshed and happy.

Have an awesome weekend, everyone!

Stoney’s

Most of you know I live in Montreal, most of the time. The rest of the time (time which is dwindling, as the years go by!) I spend at home in Oakville with my family. We play with cats, eat amazing food, run errands, argue with each other, laugh, and increasingly watch InkMaster on TV. One great thing about my hometown is that, despite being kind of suburban, it has a lot of great restaurants – which I tend to frequent, when I’m home.

Yesterday, my friend Kyle and I caught up over food at the oh-so-charming family favourite, Stoney’s Bread Company. It’s an adorable downtown restaurant, filled with light, noise, and good smells. It was recently profiled on the Food Network show You Gotta Eat Here, but my sister has been going and ordering the Nove sandwich ever since I was in high school.

We ordered the coastal mushroom pizza and the balsamic chicken sandwich. See the full menu here.

I love to eat, as you can probably tell. I have a confession though: much of the recipes that make it to my blog are special-occasion kind of food. Weekend food. Food I make simply to delight my friends. (They deserve it, I have absolutely wonderful friends.) It’s food I want to learn how to make, experiment with, make look really pretty.

But it’s not what I spend most of my time eating. If this isn’t immediately obvious, I apologize. That’s sort of the problem with blogs: they only showcase the glossy, lovely aspects of our lives. Not the mundane, quiet parts. Most of the food I love is simple, unfussy, messy, not really fit for photographing (though I do anyway). Shall I give you a little peek?
