So the latest news in my usually quiet life,  is that in a week and a half, I’m going to London, UK with my two best girlfriends! Charmed life. One of those two, let’s call her I, is lucky enough to own a London apartment that she has now not lived in for over ten years. How lucky are we! I kid you not. To top that off, her mother is a flight attendant and can therefore by flying with us get us all a deep discount on the flight. Basically, it is an amazing opportunity, since there is no guarantee I will ever again get such cheap flights to Britain.

There is one small catch: the kind of catch worth blogging about, I think. This particular catch (not including the other catch which is that our third best girlfriend may be unable to take time off work and come with us) is that my other best friend, let’s call her L, has a bit of a control problem, at times. As well as currently a money problem. Basically what this means for me is frequent frantic phone calls, slightly stressing about how much time she should take off work, when we’re going to plan this, freaking out, etc. The problem arose when last night I realized that if we were to do this trip, and she were to be stressed, anxious, rushed and broke the entire time, she would likely be cranky. Which would make me cranky. Which would make I overcompensate and try to keep the peace (which gets annoying in itself). Which would make the trip unenjoyable for all. We had a lengthy phone argument, which resulted in L getting extremely upset and hanging up on me. So. I feel extremely bad about it, because I can’t blame her for being stressed. It’s stressful!

I am now faced with the current situation. There is no backing out of this trip, not that I really want to, and yet I also do not wish to be rushed or complained to for a week abroad. So what to do, what to do. Since I know my friends so well, I know the best policy is likely proactiveness, setting rules, setting out a plan in case of conflict. Planning out what we want to do when, so as not to create problems in the moment. Deciding exactly where everyone wants to go and making sacrifices based on those decisions, so that everyone is happy. Putting agreements in place to ensure no unnecessary arguments. Showing up with a smile on my face and a positive attitude, ready to compromise and stand my ground, not get aggressive or angry, not get moody and enjoy myself no matter what. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity after all!

..Easier said than done.

Wish me luck!

Summer Sunshine

Only a small selection of my summery songs this year.. :)

Best I Ever Had by Drake

Well, it’s not exactly suited for summer, but it’s sort of about being in love and all that silly business so that’s summery. It’s cute when it comes on the radio in the car and you sing it to your beau and vice versa.

Electropop by Jupiter Rising

Just try playing it in the car, loud, with the windows wide open on your way to a night out, and you’ll see why it’s summer.

Grind by Down With Webster

Again, makes me want to dance, sing, laugh, smile, and fall in love. Sounds like summer to me.

Macbook Pro

Something keeping me happy recently: my brand new Macbook Pro. 13 inches of beautiful, glossy glassy crystal clear screen, a trackpad so smooth its ridiculous, a keyboard that feels delicious on my fingers and lights up my world, smooth finish, amazing technology, quick on all programs and startup. It’s just one little box of wonderful.

Here’s what I love:

1. The Screen: as I mentioned, it is a gorgeous display, made of glass and super clear and detailed. It’s sharp.

2. The Technology: Mac is wonderful, and I already knew this. But it’s something special to be able to open your computer and have it start up in one minute with your preferences locked in, to have your computer so easy to use and set up and open right out of the box as beautiful as ever. I love being able to personalize my computer 100%. I’ve had it one day and it’s almost exactly as I want it. Everything is so easy to establish. Plus it’s super quick. Definitely a powerful machine.

3. The Keyboard: bouncy, yummy on the fingers, delicious. They’re not kidding when they say on the website that your fingers will like typing on it. No problems yet with this full keyboard, even with a keyboard cover on it it types beautifully and I forget about the cover entirely. I do think the backlight comes on a little bit quickly when not needed, but you can turn it down or off whenever you want.

4. The Gorgeous: the little aspects of the computer that make it so gorgeous. For example, being the administrator and downloading whatsoever I love, uber quick downloads, lightening fast everything, easyness of setting up folders, copying pictures, starting up and using programs, picking and choosing, personalizing the trackpad to change from actually clicking the trackpad to tapping instead..everything is gorgeous.

Originally, I had intended to talk about what I dislike..but there’s not much and I couldn’t be bothered. The only problems I’ve had are with my home wireless internet connection and my Windows Home software that I installed. Also I couldn’t register my AppleCare yesterday, but I’m going to try again today.

All in all: I could not be happier. It is so beautiful, I am in love. I love the mobility, the beauty of the machine, everything. It is lovely. :)

Soft Drinks and Aisle Seats

Yes, I am one of those. One of those people you absolutely cannot stand. I talk loudly. I gasp. I exclaim! I use exclamation points in my speech. Sometimes I sing along to the songs they play. And I’m also the obnoxious one crawling over your legs with potentially the worst timing ever because I have to pee.

Yes. I am the Movie Monster. You hate me. I accept this. For future reference, I do actually try to tone it down and I have wonderful loving friends and a socially conscious boyfriend who attempt to quiet me. And in all seriousness I’m not THAT bad. Honest.

However, for those other self-unconfessed Movie Monsters, I have a brand-spankin’-new tool for us to use. It is called..drunmroll please…

Yes. That’s right. RunPee.Com. It appears to be a fantastic resource for Movie Monsters such as myself, to avoid all of those potentially awkward moments. You know the ones. Sitting in your seat uncomfortably, looking around frantically and sussing out the path of least resistance to the door, not paying attention to the screen as you attempt to determine if what that just passed was very important or just mildly important and the big important stuff is coming up as soon as you’re out of the theatre. Nobody wants to come back to their seat and have their best friend tell them they just missed the coolest part.

Cue RUNPEE.COM. Although a brand new and not so comprehensive, it does list all current movies in theatres. There is no search bar, but there is a function to view movies alphabetically, by release date, etc. When I clicked on two movies I had already seen (17Again and Star Trek), it gave me the exact time I should go RunPee, and then in a box below the timestamp, it has jibberish with a button that says ‘unscramble’. This is obviously for spoilers. If you don’t care (and you shouldn’t, because you don’t really know the characters names yet or what the little tidbit is talking about so it would be okay to see the spoiler…) and although I could not really remember the exact moment of the movie the site is talking about, I guess the tool is more for people who HAVEN’T seen the movie yet rather than people who have.

All in all, I will definitely be using this tool in future. It is a hilariously useful and ingenious miss the dull parts, get to relieve yourself, and get back right before the big fight (or sex) scene.

Love, S.
