This week I watched the film Disclosure and it blew me away, made me sad, made me thoughtful, and made me feel so inspired by the Trans men and women who shared their stories onscreen. SO so good. I also found Brené Brown’s interview with Laverne Cox to be really excellent.

I can’t be the only person who laughed hysterically (alone in my apartment) while reading this story.

This week I finished two great books. The Fire Next Time is a classic by James Baldwin told in two thoughtful essays about racial injustice in America. Trick Mirror is a collection of essays from Jia Tolentino which I found to be thought-provoking and interesting.

I tried avocado dyeing for the first time this week and it was so much fun! I dyed two white linen curtain panels and they came out the most adorable shade of pink. Here are the instructions I followed.

My boyfriend and I went to the drive-in movie theatre last week and it was such a fun quarantine activity! I was pleased to see that there’s a new drive-in opening up right here in Toronto.

Suuuuper inspired by the Supreme Court’s decision on abortion this week. That makes three liberal decisions on a majority-conservative court in just a few weeks! As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

A new-to-me Instagram account that I love.

I did an Instagram Live this week to talk about my coaching program and got to chat with past members about their experiences. It was so much fun!! You can watch it here if you’re interested.

Last but not least, pure joy.

How was your week! This one felt longer than others lately, probably because it was more full with calls, plans, a one-day business “retreat”, fireworks and long walks in the park. This weekend I’m planning to take it easy, do lots of reading (which I seem to finally have the bandwidth for again after a few months of my nervous system being too fried to concentrate) and hope to get myself to a beach for some swimming! I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Reminder: Summer is not cancelled! I downloaded this guide to a more joyful summer (yes, even during a pandemic) from Aesthetics of Joy and am excited to implement some of the ideas on the list.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her democratic primary this week!! She fills me with such hope for the future of the USA and the world.

Extremely random and also amusing: this week I learned whether it’s “bad rap” or “bad rep” and the history of that phrase.

Sunday’s Company just launched ritual kits! I’ve worked with Mel in the past on this idea and it’s so fun to see it come to life. They look BEAUTIFUL.

I just found out that Notion made its free personal plan unlimited for all users! Huzzah! I am so happy and back to my daily journaling & note-taking inside this awesome app.

In case you missed it, I gave a talk on how to maximize your productivity last week for Travel Massive – you can watch it right here!

This week I publicly announced my personal and business commitments to anti-racism. If you’re curious, you can read about them right here!

I am going to be doing an Instagram Live on Monday at 2PM to answer questions about my group program, The Foundery! Join us right here if you are interested in the program or just want to come hang out.

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope that you had a great week. Mine flew by, but I managed to spend time in nature every day which is a huge win. I am finally feeling my nervous system begin to calm down slightly and am trying to get back to my healthy habits. I even bought a Nutribullet which I am thrilled about! This weekend I’m planning to take it easy, starting with taking today off to go for a hike. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Really into the idea of the #BlackPublishingPower campaign! The idea is simple: buy two books written by Black authors this week. You still have time! I bought mine from A Different Booklist, which is a local Black-owned bookstore.

The two books I bought, which I’m so excited about, are Queenie and All About Love.

I’ve had two recent experiences with Streamyard recently: once as a participant, and once as a host, and I am really impressed with it! If you’re looking to host a webinar, I would highly recommend.

7 courses by Black women to help you practice anti-racism.

This episode of The Daily was so moving and heartening. I am so thankful for every bit of hope we can get these days.

This week I also joined The Academy by Vaness Henry to learn more about Human Design!

I am now in week 2 of doing tabata-style workouts led by Raneir Pollard and…it’s actually going pretty well! I’m not the type to love a high-intensity workout but Raneir is funny & enthusiastic so it makes it more fun.

Just a quick reminder that Captain Awkward exists, if you, like me, often forget to check for new posts but need some help reinforcing your boundaries. She is so so good.

And we’re back! My blog was down last week, so I wasn’t able to come in and share any links. But it’s back up, yay, so I’m back! This week has gone by in a flash thanks to group sessions of The Foundery, a talk I gave for Travel Massive, and my Productivity Party…alongside lots of reading and learning. This weekend I’m hoping to take a long Instagram detox, and (fingers crossed!) have a socially distanced visit with my Dad for Father’s Day, for the first time in months. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! xo.

Inspiration June 5: Black Lives Matter

Inspiration June 5: Black Lives Matter

This week I’m sharing the most helpful resources & information that have inspired me to take action in the fight against racism. I want to be super clear and unequivocal here: I believe that Black Lives Matter, and I am committing to further understanding my privilege and how to be a better anti-racist ally going forward. I have so much work to do, and I will not do it perfectly, but it’s not about me. It’s about the lives that are being lost daily due to systemic and systematic racism.

I signed up for this Anti-Racism Daily newsletter and so far it has been incredibly helpful.

I also signed up for Rachel Ricketts’ Spiritual Activism 101 course. I haven’t yet watched it due to some added security measures they’ve added because it’s so popular right now (which is amazing!!) but I can’t wait to dive in.

This week I have been learning a lot from Rachel Rodgers. Her IGTV about Marie Forleo and the good white Liberal response was incredibly powerful, and this article about how to create diversity in your business was so helpful.

I’m participating in the #AmplifyMelanatedVoices challenge this week and sharing lots of resources to my stories. See them saved in my highlight right here.

When I first read about defunding the police, it seemed radical and I didn’t understand how it would help. This week I’ve learned so much more about what that would actually look like and how the alternative programs proposed would actually protect citizens much more. Nobody is saying the police don’t have a role, it’s about reimagining what that role might be. This NY Times article was very helpful in helping me understand, as was learning the mission of 8 Can’t Wait.

Some information on why focusing on or being angry about the protests misses the point here and in this video here.

This episode of Revisionist History is not explicitly about race (it’s about the Troubles in Northern Ireland) but I agree with Malcolm, hearing that story shed so much light for me on what is happening right now.

I have pledged to read every book on the Anti-Racism bookshelf from Ideal Bookshelf. If you want to read them, buy them here or I also put together the whole list of them on GoodReads here.

I loved this interview with Ibram X. Kendi on Unlocking Us. Such a powerful and helpful conversation about anti-racism and vulnerability.

Really in-depth and helpful article about things white people can do for racial justice.

I wrote about my thoughts on bringing racial justice into your business right here.

I put together a further list of resources that I’ve aggregated from Black activists on my website.

I want to say this: as a white person, I am seeing it as my responsibility to amplify Black voices AND to have conversations with my white friends & family about how we can work together to remedy these injustices. So my email inbox is always open if you want to engage in a discussion about any of these topics, as are my DMs on Instagram. It’s not easy to unlearn and open our eyes to the oppression baked into our society’s systems, but it is important. I am sending you so much love. xo.
