What a Weekend Away Taught Me About Becoming the Person I Want to Be

Since this is a bit of a wordy post, I’ve included my very first (!!) podcast to spice things up. Be sure to let me know if you like this format, and check it out below!

What a Weekend Away Taught Me About Becoming the Person I Want to Be

I’ve been putting off writing this post for a few weeks now – partially because of exams, and also because it’s no mean feat to bare your soul to the Internet. However, my blog’s mantra is “growing up + getting happy”, so I feel a kind of duty to share my humble life lessons here for others to potentially/hopefully/possibly benefit from.

It’s really not easy, this “growing up” thing. The further I venture down this path, the more I learn: about myself and about the world. It’s hard work to fully accept your faults or weaknesses, and is sometimes even harder to appreciate your strengths.

One of the struggles to face is that your “ideal” or dream self – the self you dreamed of being as a kid or teen, before your life “really” started – is now conflicted. It’s about that time in your life that you expected your ideal self to come into being, but it’s proving more difficult to become that person than you expected. Or, it is for me at least.

20 Things to Do To Enjoy This Spring!

Is it official? Can we bring out the banners, start the parade? Let’s share cookies and lemonade everyone, because it’s SPRING! It’s finally spring! Hallelujah! We did it. We made it through the long, cold night and we’re now awakening to a bright, warm morning. For students, this is fairly bad timing: the entire month of April promised to be overwhelmed by final papers, assignments, and exams – and overwhelmed it was.

And while Mother Nature is still making up her mind – cold, damp days are still far too frequent for my taste – spring ultimately promises rain, greenery, and sunshine. Delightful!

How to make the most of it? Well, since each season is unique, they each deserve to be celebrated in their own special way. And summer is slowly creeping up on us, so let’s get excited about springtime while it’s still here!

How To Survive Exam Season, Part 2

Part 2! This was originally published April 25, 2010. If you’re in the middle of exams right now, this is my lifeline to you. Hang in there + good luck!

Time for part two everyone! I figure since I’m halfway through my exams at this point (and racing to the finish line) I can share three more strategies I employ frequently to remain alive and well during examinations. Last time I spoke mostly about physical health, this time it’s about mental health and stress management. As always, enjoy!

Lesson 4: Make a Detailed Study Plan

Yeah, it’s boring. Yeah, it’s tedious. Yeah, it helps.

I don’t ever want to suggest that a certain place to study, or a certain way to study is best (although I don’t really believe when people say they study best at night), but I do suggest that having a study calendar or plan will make your season much less stressful.

How To Survive Exam Season, Part 1

This article was originally published exactly one year ago today: April 16, 2010. I know it’s no excuse, but it’s exam time all over again, so I haven’t had much time to escape the study grind and write new content. For now, I hope that this old content can serve to inspire you in this stressful time!

It’s that time of year, folks! Crunch time. Exams are fast approaching (or maybe over, if you go to certain schools) and it’s time to buckle down, bite the bullet and get to work. Although most of my readers have probably taken exams before, I’d like to share some lessons I’ve learned the hard way about exam time.
