I enjoyed this week of photos a lot more than the 2nd week – more inspiration! I’ve gotten really into “self-portraits”, because I always think having something that can live and breathe in your photos makes them look more alive. And these days, I spend a lot of time doing readings in my room or going out on fairly desolate walks, and I’m sick of photographing squirrels! I swear, this is my last squirrel ever. So usually I’m the only living/breathing subject that I feel comfortable photographing. I’m sure this will change as my friends and I hibernate less.
The highlights from the past week are the cornflake-crunch-chocolate-marshmallow cookies (!), all the yoga I’ve been doing, and my dark orange scarf that I’ve been knitting away at furiously – it’s hopefully going to turn into a beautiful circle-scarf or should I say “snood”! Hope you’ve been having an absolutely wonderful week.
Although you can follow my progress of project 365 on Flickr, I’ve seen lots of bloggers posting their week’s photos on their blogs. I quite like that idea! So I’ll be posting my top 7 each week here.
For those who don’t know, Project 365 is a mission to take a photo every day for a year. My own personal rules for myself are that:
- The picture has to be taken with my digital camera, not my phone
- I should try to capture “daily beauty”, if possible
I made these rules in order to improve + practice my photography, and to try and open my eyes to the daily beauty all around us. It’s been a great exercise so far. I’d encourage you to try it out! We’re only 12 days into 2012, so…(wait for it..as I type this it’s 12PM, on the 12th of January, 2012! )…you still have many other days of the year (353, to be exact) in which to take photos. So climb aboard!
So far, I’ve found it hard to capture things I find inspiring every day, especially since I’m not the kind of person who finds endless white and lots of wind + snow inspiring! But it’s been fun so far to remember to take my camera with me, and to try and keep an eye out for pretty things. The last shot is a snowy self portrait, taken on one of my snowy walks. I felt happy, and I think this photo captures that.
Life lately has been filled with so many splendid things. The boyfriend came to town for a short but lovely visit, bringing along a massive box for yours truly! (Inside was an ice cream maker – I’d jokingly asked for it in an article here, but didn’t expect to actually receive it! Very sweet.)
We spent the time that he was here spending some quality time together, decorating cookies, doing a little holiday shopping, exchanging gifts, sleeping in, and going to a really fun dinner with my sisters + their boyfriends too! That was fun, and we got to play some poker and Trivial Pursuit after as well. Cute.
